This year's sixth graders at DLMS raised $1,988.15 for the 13th Annual Charity Essay Project. Students research an organization of their choice, write about it, and then present it to their classroom. Students then vote to determine the charity most deserving of the classroom money that students worked hard to collect during the project.

This year, money was donated to the following groups:

Brianna Tessman (Humane Society of the Lakes), Easton Knopf (Honor Flight of ND/MN), Joey Voigt (Alzheimer's Foundation), Finn Kirsch (TruckerDown), Liam Strand (Colon Cancer Coalition), Robbie Bennett (Good+ Foundation), Cooper Martinson (Boys and Girls Club of Detroit Lakes), Trinity Piekarski (Humane Society of the Lakes)
